General information

Triderm cream is composed chiefly of betamethasone along with antibiotics. It is from the family of potent (group III) corticosteroids, in blend with antibiotics. Triderm cream is applied for treating dermatological ailments.

Triderm cream uses

Aid of inflammatory symptoms of corticosteroid-responsive dermatoses when convoluted by minor contamination induced by organisms responsive to the ingredients of this dermatologic cream or when the risk of such infectivity is suspected.

Clotrimazole has been demonstrated to be efficient in the management of tinea cruris, tinea pedis,  and tinea corporis induced by Epidermophyton floccosum, Trichophyton mentagrophytes, Trichophyton rubrum,  and Microsporum canis, candidiasis owing to Candida albicans,  tinea versicolor induced by Pityrosporum obiculare (Malassezia furfur).

Bacteria vulnerable to gentamicin comprise responsive strains of Staphylococcus aureus (coagulase-negative, coagulase-positive and some penicillinase generating strains) and the gram-negative bacteria: Aerobacter aerogenes, Pseudomonas aeruginosa, Proteus vulgaris, Escherichia coli and Klebsiella pneumoniae.

Triderm ointment may also be used for other ailments not mentioned in the list.

Dosage and administration

Use a thin coat of Triderm ointment into the infected region twice a day.

Special precautions

  • Withdraw use if hypersensitivity, irritation, or super-infection occurs. Don’t use on broken skin or open wounds.
  •  Management of widespread BSA.
  • Extended application predominantly in kids and children. Development of non-vulnerable microorganisms in extended use.
  • Application of occlusive dressings.
  • Not for ophthalmic application.
  • To be used with special care during pregnancy and lactation.

Triderm side effects

Rare reports of side effects to Triderm treatment have been reported. They include hypochromia, skin discolouration, burning, exudation, erythema and pruritus.

The following negligible side effects also have been observed with the application of topical corticosteroids particularly under occlusive uses: Burning, irritation, perioral dermatitis,itching, folliculitis, hypertrichosis, dryness, hypopigmentation, allergic contact dermatitis, acneiform eruptions,  secondary infection, maceration of the skin,  striae, skin atrophy and miliaria.

Of almost thousand subjects being treated with clotrimazole treatment topically for indicated dermatomycoses, ninety five percent demonstrated outstanding local acceptances. Other side effect observed includes stinging, erythema, peeling, blistering, pruritus, edema, urticaria and wide-ranging irritation of the skin.
