Since 1940s, antibiotics were initially used to curb the growth of harmful microorganisms, including harmful bacteria. It was indeed a great achievement in the medical field that humans had successfully invented a medication to prevent the growth of dangerous microorganisms. Antibiotics are regarded as a life-saving tool as they help treat various types of infectious diseases. This advancement has been a revolutionary change for medicine.
In the midst of the greater medical achievement, antibiotics can cause potential risks to one’s body if they are being overdosed. Excessive use of antibiotics does not benefit one’s health, as it raises a concern of bacteria resistance towards the drug. Many animal studies reveal that overuse of antibiotics causes approximately 60% of the common infections and that treatment with antibiotics could become ineffective.
What are the Adverse Health Effects of Overdosing Antibiotics?
There is a close relationship between resistance and the overdose of antibiotics. That means bacteria or virus become resistance to the antibiotic when large amounts of this drug is used. Overdosing of antibiotics, undoubtedly, has increased the resistance of bacteria or virus and simultaneously stimulating their growth. In children, when overdose of antibiotics is used, they may experience increased risks of adverse reactions including abdominal pain, stomach upset, diarrhea and perhaps skin itchiness.
Excessive and repeated use of antibiotics may also cause intestinal infections. Therefore, the practice of using antibiotics frequently, inappropriately and constantly is not encouraged. When bacteria or viruses become resistance to antibiotics, they become immune and the present drug is no longer powerful enough to kill them. At times, scientists need to invent more powerful antibiotics in order to help curb their growth. This process repeats each time when a new antibiotic is invented, and it already become ineffective to treat many infectious diseases as the microorganisms become stronger and stronger day by day. US Centers for Disease Control and Prevention have conducted a case study concluding that the bacteria once responsive to the use of the antibiotic has already become resistant to the drug, making the treatment of many diseases such as tuberculosis, skin infections, pneumonia, ear infections, meningitis very difficult to treat as antibiotics become ineffective. That is the reason why flu-like diseases, cold and other types of infections as well, become very hard to treat.
Meanwhile, to save yourself from the health risk of antibiotics, you should learn the facts about the antibiotics, know when and how to take them preferably under the supervision of a doctor. You should not use antibiotics simply to treat viral diseases particularly if you are not prescribed them by your physician. To emphasize here, overdose of antibiotics are strictly prohibited as it does more harm to your health than you could imagine. After all, you should employ a healthy lifestyle, healthy eating habits and good hygiene to maintain your good health, and must avoid using antibiotics without being prescribed by your doctor.

Chan, this is something more people need to read. I used to work in a doctor's office and so many patients would clamor for antibiotics every time they got the sniffles.
Antibiotics must be taken as prescribed by an actual physician.
This is valuable info Chan. Too bad, in my country not many people are aware with antibiotics dangers. Antibiotics are like peanuts here. They can be bought without Rx and it is sad that when you try to warn them, they just ignore you.
Great info about using antibiotics Chan!
Another well researched article my friend. Thanks for sharing.
Yes, I worked for years in the medical field and some people try to be the doctor rather than take the professional's advice and treat with natural remedies. This can often prevent your well stated overdose of antibiotics.Tweet and buzzed
